Overview

Functional Coatings specializes in custom coating, laminating and slitting of a wide variety of engineered materials in roll goods form. Industries served include textile, shoe, medical devices, automotive, furniture and general industrial. Our company has a proven track-record of reliable production for the most demanding customers (including the automotive industry) and a demonstrated ability to work with ISO 9000 customers and meet their quality, process control and documentation requirements.

Hot Melt Adhesives and Coatings

With our reverse-roll hot-melt coater, we can coat or laminate heat-sealable or pressure sensitive (PSA) hot-melt (HM) adhesives. The adhesives applied can be commercially available products specified by the customer, or we can manufacture and apply proprietary hot-melt formulations.
We also have the capability to laminate with "moisture-cured hot-melt urethanes" (PURHMA). This class of hot-melt adhesive forms very durable cross-links which allow us to fabricate high performance laminates.
Functional Coatings also formulates and manufactures hot-melt adhesives for sale or on a toll-manufacturing basis.

Water-Based Adhesives and Coatings

We use two different systems for applying water-based PSA's, adhesion promoters and primers to foams, films and fabrics.

Our "camel-back" drying oven is particularly useful for coating foams with a minimum of tension that often causes width shrinkage problems. Coatings are applied with a roll-coater head or a Meyer-Rod station.

Our "conventional oven" is used for substrates that are less tension sensitive, such as fabric, film and paper. Coatings are applied with a knife-over-roll coating head. This coating system also has a laminating station for applying adhesives by transfer coating from release paper. The laminating station can also be used to combine numerous combinations of engineered materials.
